Besides Makkah, Madinah Munawarrah (“the enlightened city”) is the second most sacred city in Islam. An oasis town dated back to the sixth century BCE. During the third century CE warfare among Jews and Romans, numerous Jews abandoned Jerusalem and relocated to Yathrib, their ancient home.
In 213 CE
In 213 CE, Nero dispatched a strong Roman force led by Petra Lenidas to Madinah to kill the Jews. A settlement persisted, and by the period the Prophet (S.A.W) moved, there was a significant Jewish presence in the country. The Jews awaited the advent of a prophet who, as per their religious texts, would emerge in Madinah. They often used to mock the native Arabs.
That when he actually arrived. The Jews would exterminate the pagans. Therefore, when they understood. Their vanity overcame them, and they spurned him, despite the fact that the Quran indicates that they recognized him as they recognize their sons. In it is mentioned in a Quranic Verse that: Those to whom We gave the Scripture know him as they know their own sons. But indeed, a party of them conceal the truth while they know [it]. (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2: 146)
Despite this, various Jews converted to Islam, most prominently Hussain bin Salam, among their most knowledgeable Rabbis.
When the Prophet (P.B.U.H) moved to Madinah, he was not unacquainted with the city. His father, Abdullah, was laid to rest there. He had traveled there before with his mother Aminah (R.A) and their beloved slave girl Baraka when he was six years old. That girl name is Umme Ayman.
Afterward in life. He told how he began to swim at a pool owned by his cousins, with whom they had visited. And how the boys helped him to fly a kite as well. But, when they began to travel back his mother became quite ill. She died a couple of days later at Abwa. its is not from Yathrib and was buried there. Barakah did everything she could to soothe the kid and took him back to Makkah.
A year prior to the evacuation. The Prophet (S.A.W) sent Mus’ab bin Umair (R.A) on a quest to spread Islam (Tableegh) among the inhabitants of Madinah. Madinah is located 210 miles (340 kilometers) in the north of Makkah. Madinah was around the size of the current masjid and the accompanying white tiled region during the time of the Prophet (P.B.U.H).
