Chandrashila, which actually means moon rock is the summit of the Tungnath located at  an altitude of 12,110 feet above sea level. The village of Chopta is 254 km from Rishikesh and 34 km away from Gopeshwar.  You can start from Delhi and reach Rishikesh and there are a lot of modes of  transport available to reach Rishikesh. You can reach Rishikesh and Haridwar by road  easily and from there you can reach Gopeshwar and then move ahead to Chopta  village.  

WHEN TO VISIT CHOPTA CHANDRASHILA 

Even at this height, the trek is accessible for nearly six months in a year and hence  can be visited by most people. But the most advisable time to visit Chopta ChandraShila trek is in the months of April, may, June that is summer, and also in the months of  

winter that is from October to December. It totally depends on what you want to  experience, snow-filled mountains or beautiful flora and fauna. In winter, the  mountain is filled with snow and offers the best view. But it’s also a bit difficult to 

trek in this season keeping in mind the heavy snowfall. It takes around four to five  days to finish the trek.  

Chopta Chandrashila trek is quite an easy one in summers but could be a little  difficult in winters. But unlike most treks, this one is quite a safe one.  Even if you are not an experienced hiker, you can easily complete the trek. You can  witness the most beautiful sites of the peak and all the efforts you put on the trek will  be totally worth it.

Since your trip starts at Haridwar/Rishikesh, you can visit all the famous temples at  Haridwar and believe me, it is one of the most beautiful places this country has to  offer. This trek  will for sure give you a sense of satisfaction.You can also visit the Tungnath temple,  which is also the highest Shiva temple in the worth and also the highest patch Kedar  temple in the entire Uttarakhand. Some nearby villages like sari are also a sight to  behold. Few other places include Deoria Tal, Ukhimath, Kalimath, Bisurital, etc. 

WHAT TO CARRY ALONG ON THE TREK  

1. Take along with you a couple of warm clothes and thermal wear because you  might experience cool temperature while reaching the peak of the hill.  2. Carry spare socks, undergarments, and pick waterproof shoes/slippers.  3. Make sure your tent is zipped up and waterproof at all times while camping.  4. Avoid trekking at the night and especially if you are alone. 

5. Carry mosquito repellents and other antiseptic creams just in case. 6. Carry an insulated water bottle and even a water purifier along.  7. A sturdy walking stick or a trekking pole 

8. A flashlight along with some extra batteries because you don’t know what you  would get to face on the journey.
